    Dragon

Dragon - a symbol of strength, power and resilience - is an enduring emblem of myth and legend that has captured the imagination of people across cultures throughout history. Its depiction in porcelain serves as a testament to its timeless significance, transcending geographic boundaries and inspiring awe in those who behold it.

In Chinese porcelain art, the dragon is a fearsome and mighty creature, coiled and poised to unleash its power. Accompanied by other symbols such as clouds, waves, and pearls, it symbolizes its ability to bring rain and prosperity to the agricultural society of ancient China.
This connection to prosperity and abundance has made the dragon a revered symbol of divine power and authority among Chinese Emperors, who chose it as their royal emblem. The depiction of the dragon was carefully crafted to reflect the prestige and magnificence of the imperial court, and its use as a motif was considered of great importance in ancient China, requiring the approval of the imperial court itself.

In Japanese culture, the dragon is associated with water, which is seen as a symbol of purity and renewal. It is also a regal symbol for the Japanese imperial family.

In contrast, in European medieval art, dragons were often depicted as fearsome creatures of evil and destruction. On ceramics, they served as a warning to the viewer, or as a symbol of protection against evil.
In Islamic art, dragons were often depicted as exotic creatures from distant lands. Highly stylized and adorned with intricate patterns and geometric designs, they were often used to decorate tiles, ceramics, and other decorative objects.

At UWPF, our skilled artisans craft each piece to reflect the power and majesty of this legendary creature, making it a treasured addition to any collection. As a timeless symbol of strength and resilience, the dragon will continue to inspire wonder and admiration for generations to come.
